Intel and Micron jointly announced a 25nm NAND Flash product last week being ramped up at IMFlash, their joint venture. The new product will give them a large competitive advantage in the market. EETimes covered the announcement, which was leaked early by an industry analyst. According to SEMI in their latest reports, memory accounts for over half of all capital equipment purchases. This seems to confirm analysts’ speculation at the Industry Strategy Symposium that 450mm will not occur at 22nm, as products are being announced at 25nm and 22nm by Intel. So, is 15nm the target? Or perhaps 11nm? With such a tremendous impact to the supply chain, industry timing is a subject worth discussing.
